Policy Change for People Volunteering in CQC Regulated Care Homes

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccination of People Working or Deployed in Care Homes

As you may be aware, there is a policy change due for implementation shortly – all volunteers in Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated care homes in England will need to show proof of vaccination or exemption, unless they are under 18 from 11 November 2021.

Government has produced detailed operational guidance on the policy, including the timeline included below. Please find a brief summary of key points of guidance below, and for more information please consult the operational guidance.

Reminder of Timeline for implementation

  • 22 July – start of the grace period
  • 16 September – last date for care home workers to get their first dose so they are fully vaccinated by the time the regulations come into force
  • 11 November – regulations come into force

How to demonstrate evidence of vaccination

Individuals that have been vaccinated by the NHS in England may demonstrate their vaccination status using the NHS COVID Pass service via the following 3 routes:

In addition, the Department for Health and Social Care has shared a letter addressed to visiting professionals and volunteers in care settings.
