The best part of my role is that I get to work with brilliant, friendly, and interesting volunteers and inspirational members of staff from all walks of life. Without volunteers, The Royal Marsden would be a very different place for me, the staff, and the patients. The volunteers have been an immense force for good throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and have helped every step of the way. The volunteers have been integral to allowing the hospital to continue providing the highest standard of care. My goal is to expand volunteering opportunities in the hospital as we transition from a reactive pandemic response service to a mainstay supporting organisation. It will be mutually beneficial to everyone involved if departments make access the support of the Volunteer Service. We have several young aspiring medics in the volunteer roster, and it would be especially nice to see them engaging in interesting and exciting roles. NAVSM is a brilliant organisation and a place where Volunteer Service Managers and Coordinators can share their experiences and provide support to other individuals involved in volunteering. Having a network of likeminded people will inevitably lead to each person getting more out of their day-to-day work.
